How To Get Started Raising Chickens

Learn all the basics on how to start and raise a flock of chickens in your own backyard!
Join experts Bruce Benedict and Sarah Mastrobattisto to learn everything you want to know about starting and raising your own backyard flock. Bruce will walk you step-by-step through choosing the best coop, breeds and feeders for you to keep your flock happy and healthy. Sarah will guide you through feeding your birds from baby chicks to laying hens and all their nutritional needs along the way.
New CSA Partnership with Gazy Brothers Farm
Local farms need all the support we can give them, and Wakeman Town Farm has a new way to help. Because our own garden isn’t quite big enough to provide all the produce you love, we’ve partnered with fourth-generation Gazy Brothers Farm. Coming this spring, weekly CSA shares of fresh local produce will be delivered right to our farm every Thursday.

In this relaxed setting, learn how to build more lasting self-care techniques into your busy life:
Use daily guided AFFIRMATIONS to program your mind in a positive way Build MEDITATION practices into your day and use many resources available online Understand shopping and cooking techniques for optimal NUTRITION Organize and arrange your surroundings to make your house a MINDFUL HOMEUnderstand the benefits of JOURNALING and develop your own writing schedule Use VISION BOARDING to clarify and maintain focus on your life goals
In addition, an hour of YOGA will be led by Cynthia Davis.
Cynthia is a Baptiste yoga practitioner who trained with the Africa Yoga Project.
A plant-based organic LUNCH will be provided, as well as snacks, water, coffee and tea.

April Vacation Week Camp
Join our experienced Farm Educators, Arts, and Culinary Instructors for a Vacation Week Camp celebration! We will spend the days visiting our Farm animal friends; learning to cook delicious farm-fresh foods; creating a variety of nature-based crafts and other “maker” activities; playing games; exploring the grounds, gardens and nature trail. Please bring a hearty nut-free snack or two, a reusable water bottle, and wear warm shoes or boots and weather-appropriate outdoor clothes that are OK to get dirty.

Japanese for the Home Cook
Japanese cuisine is not all about sushi. There are so many other delicious Japanese dishes that are simple, healthy, and easy to make at home. Let's learn how to make some of the popular dishes that often appear on the table in Japanese households.
Aya was born and raised in Japan and came to the U.S. to go to college. She teaches classes in her own kitchen or yours. When she is not teaching or cooking for private parties, she works as a recipe consultant.

Learn cooking techniques, such as basic knife skills, mise en place (recipe set-up), and kitchen etiquette as you create delicious (and simple) recipes highlighting ingredients and spices from all over the world.
We’'ll make a variety of healthy yet delicious recipes and learn about their origins, such as: Asian potstickers, Venezuelan arepas, Middle Eastern falafel and flat breads and American shortcakes with berries and homemade whipped cream…

Farm to Table Cooking
Grades 2-5

This Farm-themed class is designed with young chefs in mind. Participants join Chef Kathy in Tim's Kitchen to learn new recipes based on the seasons. Our jr. chefs develop lifelong culinary skills, including knife-handling, baking, and using a variety of kitchen appliances and gadgets. They leave the series feeling more seasonally aware and more confident in the kitchen. And, of course, eating what we cook is always part of the fun! spring veggie tarts and pizzas, farm-fresh egg frittatas and a variety of baked goods.

Compassionate Engagement for Seniors Living with Dementia
Join us for a coffee talk about ways to support and engage a loved one who has dementia on Tuesday, April 14 at 10:30 a.m.
It promises to be an uplifting and informative discussion.

Giving Tuesday is May 5th
Since closing the Farm to the public, our major sources of income have temporarily dwindled, but our animals still need to eat—and they eat a LOT! On #Giving Tuesday, we're asking100 Farm Friends to donate $20 each to help us raise the money we need to feed our animals for the next few months. Zero Waste Round Table
Come join a roundtable discussion with RTM Representative Andrew Colabella and Westport teachers Stacy Fowle and Ashley Moran, along with Westport students, to find ways to reduce waste in our town and in your home.
Moderated by our special guest, Will Haskell, CT State Senator. Ms. Fowle and Ms. Moran have led the composting movement in the Westport Public lower schools with the inspiration of their students. Andrew Colabella was the RTM lead petitioner to ban single use plastic in Westport restaurants with the assistance of students who spoke at the hearing.
